Getting Healthier As You Approach Your Mid-40s

Have you been striving for years to get healthy, but you seem to hit roadblocks or you quickly fall off the diet wagon? Losing weight and looking your best can be a challenge, but even more so once you reach your mid-40s. It actually takes a combination of several things in order to live a vigorous lifestyle and feel your best each and every day. Here are just a few things that might help make your weight loss journey and healthier lifestyle a little more easier to attain.

Making Sure You Clock Enough Sleep Hours

One of the best ways to make sure that you can sustain a healthy lifestyle is to get a good night’s sleep. This starts with a good mattress that fits your needs. Do you sleep well? Do you get at least 7 to 9 hours of sleep each night? Is your bed comfortable? These are all questions you should be asking yourself. If the answer is no, the pros at Bedding Mart can help you find the perfect mattress that fits your sleeping needs and your budget.

Next, take a good look at your existing mattress. Is it over five years old? Does it provide you with a comfortable night’s sleep? If not, it may be time to shop for a new mattress. Because lack of sleep can lead to some serious health problems, such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and obesity, getting enough rest should be a high priority on your healthy lifestyle change list.

De-stress with Non-Boring Exercise Routines

It’s a must that you should get at least 30 to 60 minutes of aerobic exercise at least every day for 5 days a week or more. But the same routine day in and day out can quickly lead to burnout. Change things up at the gym by taking advantage of group classes or get a buddy who will commit to working out with you each day. This can make things less of a drag and promote optimal health by getting out and moving more. Change up where you workout at. Switch from the same gym daily to going outside or to the mall for a brisk walk or jog. Hike some trails with friends or get active with your peers with biking, swimming or racquetball lessons. Breaking up the mundane can really allow you make some serious changes in your exercise routines.

Find A Diet That Works For You

Leading a much healthier lifestyle means finding ways to eat healthier. If you’ve been on a diet that you’ve done in the past but you always fall off the wagon or you just feel unhappy with what is on your plate, make the change now. Start by visiting your doctor for a complete health checkup. From there, your doc can direct or refer you to a nutritionist who can help prioritize the best type of diet for you. Because of your age, you may be vulnerable to heart disease or diabetes or certain types of cancers. A dietician will closely examine your past health history and find a plan that would be best for your body type and how much weight you need to lose or maintain. Remember, fad diets rarely work and are only temporary fixes. Learning how to eat better and eat differently is the best way to keep stubborn pounds at bay.

Bring Some Joy Into Your Life

Despite dieting and exercising to look and feel your best, you need to take care of your inner self. This starts with bringing some joy and happiness into your life. With everything from spending time with your pets to treating yourself to a mani-pedi once a month, small steps can lead to long-term self-care. It’s also important to get rid of toxic relationships in your life. This means that friendships that seem to make you unhappy or personal relationships that lower or impact your overall self-esteem should be closely re-evaluated. Making sure that you take time to find happiness and not work so hard at fighting off negative energy can bring a lot of peace to your mental well-being.

Getting healthier as you approach middle age doesn’t have to be a power struggle. Start off small and always ask for help if you need it. Before you know it, the small things will have a large impact on your lifestyle.
