Add Turkey to your Spring Entertaining #AlwaysTimeForTurkey Giveaway

It is hard to believe it was snowing across most of the country last week. We are now in full blown Spring mode here in BC. It is warm and sunny and days are getting longer. Spring seems to be in full swing.  We are spending more and more time outdoors and looking for meal options that fit this time of year. Canadian Turkey has a great selection of recipes for all lifestyles, budgets and seasons.

The spring season has arrived and with it comes many occasions to gather with family and friends. Celebration meals become the centrepiece for both casual and formal get-togethers, and planning is an essential step in being prepared to easily feed a crowd. Mother’s Day, Easter, Passover, Victoria Day, Father’s Day, communions, confirmations and graduations are some of those special occasions where you want your meal to shine.  At the same time, busy days and schedules mean you still need to think about family meals, snacks and lunches.  With so many celebrations around the corner, plan ahead to help make family dinners extra special, not to mention easy, manageable and economical, too.  Canadian Turkey can help you find the right solutions to help you create a healthy and show-stopping meal, whether you’re feeding a big group for a large family dinner, or just making a simple lunch, brunch or weekend dinner.

I like to stock up on turkeys when they are on sale. I cook them all year long and we enjoy the leftovers in various recipes.

Canadian Turkey wants to help you create easy everyday meals that are filled with nutrition and packed with flavour.  Turkey makes a great option in all of your favourite dishes – just swap it for any meat protein in your recipe for a leaner option that won’t compromise on flavour.  This versatile meat pairs well with a variety of flavours and seasonings, so feel free to use it in all of your family-favourite recipes. Canadian turkey also freezes well and cooks up deliciously in a slow cooker or casserole, making it the perfect choice for make-ahead meals for those busy nights when you need to get dinner on the table in a hurry.

Choosing turkey for your everyday meals is easy with the variety of turkey cuts you can find at your local butcher or grocery store. Thighs, breasts, drumsticks, sausages and ground turkey are all readily available, making it super easy to include turkey in every meal – breakfast, lunch or dinner. It’s easy to swap Canadian turkey for the meat protein in all of your family favourite recipes, since it’s a versatile option that works with many flavour profiles. As an added bonus, it’s an economical choice because you can create several dinners, bank some leftovers, or cook up some make-ahead meals from a single whole turkey or a variety of turkey cuts. Try poaching a whole turkey breast and see how delicious and easy it is to make some turkey sandwich starters for quick lunches and snacks. Their Moist and Juicy Poached Turkey and Roast Veggie Sandwich will be a hit with the whole family!

5 ways to make the most of your turkey leftovers

⦁ Plan for leftovers by allocating 1 ½ – 2 pounds of turkey per person. This will give you ½ to 1 pound of extra meat.

⦁ Leftover turkey freezes well. Store in an airtight container in the freezer for a quick start to a weekday meal. Visit www.canadianturkey.ca for recipe inspiration and make salads, soups, pastas or casseroles in a snap!

⦁ Divide your leftovers into dark and white meat so it will be easy to choose what works best in your recipes once frozen.

⦁ Store your meat in air-tight, leak-proof container or plastic bags. Wrap in plastic to avoid freezer burn and have ready portions on hand.

⦁ Save and freeze the turkey carcass and bones. Use these to make a delicious turkey stock that can easily be frozen for use in soups, sauces, gravies and mashed potatoes.
