Why You Stress and Ways to Reduce It

September 18, 2020 by GingerMommy Leave a Comment

Stress isn’t just annoying it can cause your health to deteriorate over time. You could suffer from severe headaches, stomach pain and heightened emotions. None of it is fun for you or your loved ones. Fortunately, there are ways you can reduce your stress but first you have to identify the cause.

Too Much Debt

Many families face the challenges of too much debt. It can keep you up at night and prevent you from enjoying your life. The good news is that you can resolve the problem.

A household budget will allow you to see clearly where your money goes. It can help you recognize poor spending habits and work towards reducing your debt. A budget lets you create both short and long-term goals, helping you to allocate money for things like unexpected bills, vacations and retirement.

Not Enough Income

If you have a job that isn’t paying you enough money and the smallest price increase hits you hard, it’s time for something new. A career with the opportunity for continued advancement will keep you above the cost of living from one year to the next and open the door to living the good life. For instance, if you have an interest in biology and chemistry, taking classes at one of the pharmacy schools in Illinois will set you up for a long and lucrative career. If your interests lie in the financial sector becoming a consultant for businesses affords you the work-from-home job with an excellent salary.

A Disorganized Home

You work away from home and when you return you instantly stress over the mess. Thankfully, this is something relatively easy to fix. Take a few weekends and work one room at a time.

Organizing each space and removing the clutter will create a peaceful and calm living environment. Installing shelving, wall coat and shoe racks and using fabric bins will give you a way to contain everything while providing a neat appearance. As an added bonus, you’ll save time and energy knowing where everything is.

The Need for Down Time

Everyone needs downtime. If you’re the go-to person, the one everyone calls “Super Mom,” it’s time to lose the title. Take an hour each day dedicated to you. Read a good book, relax in a hot bubble bath, or take a long walk. Having time off allows you to quiet your mind and achieve a sense of calm. It will also make you more able to tend to the needs of loved ones.

Taking Care of an Aging Parent

You have an aging parent that can no longer take care of themselves and you stress daily. Part of you wants to put them into an assisted living facility where they can receive the care they need. However, another part of you wants to bring them into your home.

It’s a decision that many people face. Unfortunately, there’s no right or wrong answer. It really depends on your circumstances. If you have children that live at home, you’ll have another person to look after. If you work all day, leaving them alone during those hours is not an option.

That means that you will need to hire someone to care for them while you’re away. Make the decision that works best for you, your family, and your parent.

Major Changes in Your Life

Life-altering changes such as the death of a loved one or a divorce can cause a boatload of stress. It’s during these difficult times that you need to remain strong. If a loved one died due to a long-term illness, remember, they are no longer in pain. They are at peace. It’s fine to grieve, it’s natural. Focus on the good times, the memories of the loved one that makes you smile. In the event of a divorce, most stress comes from starting over, alone. Maintain close contact with your siblings, parents, and friends. They will help you work through the initial difficulties.

Stress is something that you will encounter. However, if it’s something you experience daily, it’s time to find out where it comes from and reduce it.
